FENS Electronics Engineering Students Fabricate Their Own Silicon Chips

LISTEN

This semester a group of undergraduate and graduate students in the FENS-EE program successfully fabricated their own test chips during the EE407/533-Microelectronic Fabrication/Semiconductor Process Technology course led by Sabancı University faculty member Murat Kaya Yapıcı. During the semester-long course, the students experienced hands-on the entire integrated circuit  (IC) fabrication cycle from concept to final device, and processed a full 4-inch silicon wafer on which they have built fundamental circuit components ranging from resistors to diodes and transistors. The design and layout work was performed at Sabancı University FENS Labs and chips were fabricated in the cleanroom facilities of Sabancı University Nanotechnology Research and Application Center (SUNUM).
